Finger Paint, Or Finger Food?

In my opinion once the long weekend in May has come and gone, summer is here! Summer is always such busy time and if you are like me, you are constantly looking for ideas to keep those little scientists engaged.

This week, I have come up with an interesting twist on finger paint… not only is it beautiful and so amazing to paint with, you do not have to worry about those really little scientists eating it — it is completely edible as well.

Hmm… art class meets cooking class meets science class.

Let’s get started!

This week, there was a “crisis” at my house. I have an avid ice cream eater and with the warmer weather here, ice cream is a “go-to” snack! In order to avert a crisis and a trip to the grocery store at such a late hour, I had to think fast.

Of course, this made me think that with the amount of ice cream she is consuming perhaps she should consider making her own… and even one that is perhaps dairy free (just in case we are out of milk and cream too). We need options, right!?

Let’s get started!

I recently had a friend who realized they are “lactose intolerant.” Simply, this means they are unable to digest the sugar in milk products.

They were quite upset they were going to now miss out on so many delicious food items. Of course, there are alternatives to cow’s milk, I thought. After a bit of research, I discovered there are so many different kinds out there and you can actually make them at home — and learn a little bit about science at the same time.
Let’s get started!

I really wanted a snack the other day, and I realized I was out of microwave popcorn… then it occurred to me that I should be able to make my own.

With a little trial and error, I discovered how to make a healthy and delicious snack — with the use of science of course.

Spring is supposed to be here… I know it is trying really hard. Unfortunately, the weather has not been warm enough yet to put some flowers outside, so this week, I thought we could make some of our very own “flowers” to keep inside to brighten our day!
