The Summer Of Science!

Can you believe that summer has officially started! June 21 was the summer solstice. This means this was the day of the year where we have the most sunlight hours in a day. It seems so early in the year for this as summer is just starting! I think of it as a promising way to kick off the long warm days and nights of summer.

Of course, what better way to kick off summer but with some fun STEM activities?

Praxis Celebrates 30 Years of Science

Wow, can you believe it is finally time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Praxis Science Outreach Society?

I will be honest; it really seems like yesterday that I started working here because some days it does not seem like work at all — I really love what I do! What Praxis does for the communities in southeastern Alberta is very near and dear to me. I know that no one will ever love science as much as I do, but it gives me great joy sharing it with others.

Well, I need to be honest with all of my loyal readers this week…. I am a little bit stressed, BUT also REALLY excited!

In case you have not heard, our 30th anniversary celebration is fast approaching. On June 18, we will be at the Stampede Grounds, Carriage House showcasing many of our exciting experiments (for you to participate in) as well some local scientists performing some “explosive” science…I cannot wait. Well, it sure does not look like we are going to get some much needed rain anytime soon (but now it may be happening) … I have resorted to making my own! Hopefully once we learn a bit more about the water cycle, we will understand why it is not raining?

Cartesian Divers Under Pressure

I have been busy planning some of the hands-on activities for our 30th anniversary celebration coming up on June 18 at the Carriage House.

This has to be one of my favourite things to do — it is so much fun trying out activities to see if they will work for a variety of age groups. My test subjects are often agreeable when it comes to fun “chores” like this as well. Here is one that I think will be a hit.
